Afterglow Mineral Cosmetics are ideal for sensitive skin because we use minimal ingredients and avoid sensitizers like bismuth oxychloride, talc, dyes and mineral oil. All Afterglow products are fragrance free except for the Natural Lip Gloss which contains 'natural flavors' of organic fig and organic vanilla extracts.
We are proud to be...
-Organic. We use Certified Organic ingredients whenever possible.
-Ideal for sensitive skin and bodies. We avoid ingredients (even natural ones!) that are sensitizers. Our formulas are also gluten free!
-Natural. We focus on formulating the most natural & effective product available without a whole list of ingredients still used by other cosmetic companies.
-Full disclosure. We disclose every ingredient in every product we sell. Since the FDA allows companies to conceal and not list the true ingredients in items listed as “fragrance”, “flavors” and any ingredient under 1% of the total formula – you never know what you might be using. With Afterglow you always know!
-No bismuth oxychloride. Bismuth oxychloride is a common ingredient in many mineral cosmetic brands. It makes many women itch and break out. We never include this ingredient in our cosmetics.
-Paraben Free. All our products are Paraben Free.
-We only use Pharmaceutical Grade Minerals to ensure the most pure product possible.
-Our Triple Milled Formulas ensure our powders are super soft and that the color is even and well distributed for optimal coverage and color.
-Nourishing ingredients. Our Lip Love Lipstick is full of moisturizing oils to nourish your lips.
-Beautifully easy to apply. A quick swirl with your brush and a sweep
Beyond sensitive skin Afterglow is great for a number of skin conditions. If you suffer from:
Rosacea & eczema: Afterglow minerals are soft and soothing for rosacea and eczema suffers. Many mineral cosmetics actually aggravate skin conditions due to the bismuth oxychloride. Afterglow does not contain this ingredient and remains the best choice for women with skin issues.

Allergies: Taking chemicals, perfumes, synthetic and other allergenic ingredients out makes Afterglow ideal for people with allergies to makeup. Be sure to do a "Patch Test." While we formulate our products to be especially gentle and stand behind our product with our 30 day money back guarantee, we always suggest you order a sample first and do a patch test to ensure that our products will work for you. Tips for allergy sufferers:
Refresh Cosmetics Regularly: Throw out old cosmetics which can become spoiled, rancid or contaminated with use. Lipsticks, glosses, foundations, setting powders, blushes and bronzers should be refreshed every six months to one year. Eye make-up should be refreshed every six to eight months. Ensuring you have new, clean eye products is especially important due to the delicate nature of the eye.
Date Opened: We suggest you use a paint pen or permanent marker to mark your cosmetics with the date that you opened them. This is an easy way for you to know when you should swap out old cosmetics for new ones.
Keep it clean: Clean cosmetic brushes often. Cosmetic brushes can easily harbor bacteria, germs and dirt from falling on the floor, touching dirty counter tops, or being handled by unclean hands. We suggest you clean your cosmetic brushes and sponges at least
Go Gluten Free! All Afterglow products are 100% gluten free.
Why are ALL our products gluten free? Afterglow founder, Kristin Adams' mother and sister both have celiac disease and must avoid all things containing gluten – including cosmetics and personal care products. She has watched them struggling for years to find truly natural and gluten free cosmetics. When Afterglow Mineral Cosmetics was born, naturally, Kristin made sure that none of the ingredients used to formulate her line of cosmetics contained gluten.
Your cosmetics contain Vitamin E. I though that Vitamin E (tocopherol) was primarily sourced from wheat? Yes, most Vitamin E found in cosmetics is derived from wheat sources. Many manufacturers may not even know what their Vitamin E actually comes from. Afterglow Mineral Cosmetics sources only gluten free ingredients and uses Vitamin E (tocopherol) derived from organic cotton seed oil and organic olive oil. Click here to view our complete ingredient list.
Are your gluten free cosmetics made in a gluten free facility? Our gluten free cosmetics are made in a facility that makes other non gluten free cosmetics. However, Afterglow is made using sterilized stainless steel equipment and hand filled eliminating cross contamination issues often associated with mechanical filling. We fill our products in a clean room and do not fill when other products are being filled to further eliminate the chance that any cross contamination could occur with other products.
Why would wheat be in my cosmetics anyway? Gluten derived cosmetic ingredients are common in many cosmetics. Gluten is found primarily in wheat, but also in rye, malt, oats and barley. These gluten cosmetic ingredients are used in cosmetics as binders to help the ingredients stick together and are also used as emollients in the form of gluten derrived oils. Celiac disease and gluten intolerance are primarily an issue related to the auto-immune system of the intestines. However, much of what we put on our skin goes in. For a person suffering with celiac disease and the inability to digest gluten, even minor contact with gluten laced cosmetics could possibly contribute to discomfort. This may be even more true when one takes into consideration that many lipsticks on the market contain gluten as a cosmetic ingredient. This is a sobering thought for a women suffering with gluten intolerance when it is said that the average women eats pounds of lipstick over a lifetime. So, why not make it edible and gluten free at the same time? Afterglow Mineral Cosmetics is 100% gluten free
Go Paraben Free
Afterglow Cosmetics are Paraben Free 'Parabens' are a family of synthetic preservatives (methylparaben, propylparaben, isoparaben, and butylparaben). Parabens are very effective as a broad-band preservative and found in almost every common beauty care product including color cosmetics, shampoos, conditioners and lotions. Beyond being effective they also allow companies to easily and very cheaply preserve products, allowing them to have shelf lives of 2-3 years without spoiling. Paraben preservatives are suspected carcinogens. Multiple studies related specifically to breast cancer have discovered parabens in breast cancer tumors. Paraben preservatives as well as other synthetics commonly used in cosmetics and deodorants are absorbed into the skin and accumulate in the body. As the use of advanced synthetics becomes increasingly popular in almost all personal care products, our society is absorbing and accumulating ever greater amounts of synthetics. Some anti-paraben advocates call this accumulation a 'body burden' and encourage the public to avoid paraben preservatives and other identified toxic ingredients to decrease your body's overall chemical burden over a lifetime of use. Theorists believe that the sum of all the chemicals you absorb that build up in your system may eventually be one of the triggering agents in the development of cancer.
Additionally, paraben preservatives, among other synthetics such as phthalates, have been identified as endocrine disruptors . This means that once introduced into the body, the paraben preservatives, are seen chemically by the body to be similar to human produced estrogen molecules. The body's perceived additional estrogen can throw the natural body's own endocrine system off balance which contributes to theories that paraben preservatives are a catalyst for breast cancer. Many say that paraben preservatives and phthalates are especially harmful to children with developing bodies.
Additional research must be done to determine the true gravity of the daily use and absorption of paraben preservatives. While the population waits for a final verdict, Afterglow Mineral Cosmetics has made the obvious alternative available - paraben free cosmetics. We encourage you to read labels, understand what you are putting onto and eventually into your body and advocate safer alternatives, ongoing testing and better FDA regulation.
Afterglow Mineral Cosmetics are Fragrance Free. We don't include mystery perfumes in any of our products. Our Natural Lip Gloss includes 'flavors' of organic vanilla and organic fig.
Bismuth Oxychloride Free
What is bismuth oxychloride? Bismuth oxychloride is a natural ingredient found in the majority of mineral cosmetics. It is the main irritant in some brands of mineral cosmetics. Though a natural by-product, bismuth oxychloride often causes itching, rashes and mild to severe cystic acne. This is extremely unfortunate since many women are attracted to mineral cosmetics due to their reputation for being good for sensitive skin. If you choose a mineral cosmetic that includes bismuth oxychloride it may cause additional irritation. If you have had a reaction to mineral cosmetics in the past it is likely because of the bismuth oxychloride in the product. Afterglow Mineral Cosmetics understands your need for a mineral cosmetic without irritating ingredients like bismuth oxychloride. None of Afterglow's products contain bismuth oxychloride.
Bismuth oxychloride is not an ingredient you find very often in natural circumstances. It is a by-product of copper and lead refining and it can be found on the periodic table too. What may surprise you is that bismuth oxychloride resembles arsenic and antimony chemically. It is also considered a heavy metal. Cosmetically, bismuth oxychloride is considered a pearlizing agent and produces a high shine. In addition, when applied to the skin as a foundation, bismuth oxychloride often has an unnatural glowy finish. Many women find this strange 'glowy' finish produced by bismuth oxychloride unappealing. Bismuth oxychloride also has a very soft, almost slipery feel.
Unlike most other cosmetic companues we believe in full disclosure about what's inside...
